Saturday Knitting Classes – 2018

Since the first weekend in August 2017, most every Saturday morning will find Guild members at the Millcreek Library, from 10:00 to noon, teaching beginning knitting lessons.  We have students from grade school age to Grandmas, and a couple of Dads; students born and raised in Utah and students from the far ends of the earth. Skill levels from, “Do I really need two needles?” to “I just finished my first pair of fingerless gloves, and they fit!” We even have three grade school age cousins who are dedicated to chicken haute couture–what chick doesn’t look tres chique in a scarlet chicken cape? or cozy in a pink and white birdie blankie? Please contact Amy Hargreaves and join the teaching staff!

Millcreek Library has enjoyed our partnership; we get to reserve our meeting room up to a year in advance instead of the standard 30 days in exchange for helping them with community outreach through knitting lessons.

Other libraries are taking note and starting their own crafting groups. The Sandy Library has asked if we would be willing to start a group there. Perhaps a second weekly teaching group would stretch our resources too far, but they think the idea of a weekly social knit with a Guild docent or two in attendance might be just the ticket. Day of the week and time to be worked out between the volunteers and the Library. Guild members from the south end of the valley might want to seriously consider forming a group. It wouldn’t be as far to drive and, as previously mentioned, it’s fun! In case you couldn’t tell, this is a recruiting call. We need more teachers, and Sandy Library would love to have the Guild members to start a knitting group there.
